The state lies between Berlin, Leipzig and Hanover, so trains from these cities make the journey manageable from the Netherlands, though it usually takes most of a day. Halle, Magdeburg and Dessau are on the main rail network. For the Harz and the countryside around it, a car is the practical choice.
