Bavaria is a long way from the Dutch and Flemish border, so plan for a full day of travel. The train works best for Munich and the larger towns, which are linked by high-speed trains from Frankfurt and Cologne. For the Alpine valleys and the lakes, a car makes the last part of the journey much easier.
